The Survivor

Hey everyone, welcome to the Chicks With Dice Blog!! If you can’t tell from the writing, this is Kat :P

I am going to try to make more use of the money our hosting company gets from us by making this site the home of my game design blog, and where I come to talk about projects!

To start things off, I thought I would blog quickly about my latest publication, The Survivor, a playbook for Riley Rethal’s Galactic 2E. In it, you take on the role of a being connected to the space between, on the run from the mandate after their order was exterminated. Think like SW:JFO or Rebels.

The playbook spends a lot of time on what I find most interesting about those stories, healing and overcoming
trauma to allow yourself to love again. Finding peace amid guilt, and accepting that you cannot change the past, but can make the future better. I wanted to capture a feeling that resonated with me and my various traumas (which I will not detail for you to save you the energy) because exploring that period of recovery and rediscovery is something that was essential to my survival.

The Survivor talks about the hardest things you had to survive, and how you’ve avoided obstacles and challenges, enemies, and monsters, while leaving it up to the player to find those moments of introspection with your crew where you can process the fact that you’re still surviving. In doing so I hope to provide a safe way of exploring some of your own pain, and to give you a chance to say “I can make things better” in your own life.

I probably should write more, but that’s just going to distract you from actually buying the dang game so here’s the link!
